GOOGLE.COM (a little about google)

It has become a common trend in the world of today that the common things are not known. Many houses today are built on air and so many are lacking strong foundation.

The history of the beloved Google is not known by many today due to the fact that not so much value is attached to it.

Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. It was incorporated in September 4, 1998. However, the story of the development of Google started in 1995 at Stanford University. Larry page was a student of the institution and a Ph.D holder. He was born in East Lansing, Michigan on March 26, 1973. Google was a research project of his. It all started as an idea in search of a desertion theme. With the encouragement he received from his supervisor Terry Winograd, he propelled and never let the idea to die. This project of his was nicknamed Backrub.

Sergay Brin (born in Moscow, in the iron-curtai –era USSR, on August 21, 1973) was a partner who he worked with on the Stanford Digital Library Project (SDLP). It was in this project that they discovered the importance of a search engine. It equally led them to the development of Page Rank algorithm. They linked up a lot of pages and it was ranked according to how many times the search term appeared on a page.
The new search engine was using Stanford’s website domain. Google.stanfrod.edu. the domain name Google.com was registered on September 4, 1998. The name Google was a play on the mathematical expression for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros and aptly reflected Larry and Sergey’s mission to organise the world’s information and make it very accessible.

They first had their office in Sergey’s dorm room. They later hired the garage of Susan Wojcicki and Dennis Troper at 232 Santa Margarita Ave California for $1700 a month. They were able to raise $100,000 through the help of Bechtolsheim Andy. It was through him that Google inc. was born. In March 1999, they moved into offices at 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto Mountain View California which is their head quarters

Google has its motto as don’t be evil.  It  has really gone far since their birth and has no competitors aside Facebook and Apple Company. Today it produces software, mobile phones and tablet computers. Some of its products and services include:
 Gmail,
Google+,
Google Buzz
Google friend connect
Google doc
Google chrome
Android
Motorola (purchased in 2011)
Google voice
YouTube
Google earth
Google news
Google ad sense
Google image search
Blog and the rest of them

Google has really gone far in such a way that the 21st century could come to a halt without it. Come to think of it. Google has become a necessity for every internet user and student. The name alone has become synonymous with searching (google it or ask google). Books today have become more of decoration in the student’s library as Google is gradually taking over the whole show.

Some of the importance of Google will be seen below
1.     Google has made information cheap and knowledge easy to get. It has brought information to our door steps and at our convenience we can access it. Any information not on Google can as well be said not to exist
2.     It has become our means of survival. It today holds our vital information. It has become our library, telephone, music store, radio and the rest of them
3.     It has helped us in saving time and is more efficient than in the older times when you have to travel a long distance to source information and still spend time in writing them down. It has helped to organise our lives appropriately
4.     Funny as it may sound, Google has become our external brain from where we can derive our thought processes and information
5.     It has really helped in the area of resolving conflict due to varied information among individuals and debaters. The answer is always Google
6.     It has really increased the reading habit in some people and learning habit. We could now read anything at any time we desire; just stay connected. You do not need to visit the library since thousands of information are available for you in whatever you are looking for
7.     It has equally exposed us to learn not just what we can reach; we can also learn other people’s culture, lifestyle and place. We can also know about what is happening there as if we are there. We can prepare and know about where ever we want to visit without actually seeing it
8.     We can equally have a say in the whole wide world. With the blog and social network we can write and express ourselves and other people will read and to know what we think.
9.     Google has made people rich and has saved a lot of people with the help of Google earth
10.                        Entertainment is not left out in what Google offers its users

Google has continued to move from strength to strength since then; their improvement is continuous and not deterred. Their statistics can be seen below

Global revenue in 2016                                                                     89.5bn USD
Full-time alphabet employees as of 2016                                          72,053
U.S. visitors to Google.com as to September 2017                                    33.6%
Advertising revenue of Google in 2016                                             79.4bn USD
Digital ad revenue as percentage of total global revenue                            32.8%

Google has done much good and has written its name in the sand of time that any human being living in the world of the 21st century can hardly do without Google. It has made the world a global village. This is a hard truth that many might want to run away from but here is the advice. For a better you, you must have to embrace Google, make it a companion and a friend and you will have no regrets. However, Google can still lead you to doom
